Legacy Moms was born out of a small group of women who met in Kym Carter’s living room once a month to talk about parenting issues from a biblical perspective. Having witnessed and experienced first-hand the result of parenting to the extreme: both extreme legalism and extreme permissiveness, Kym realized early on in her parenting journey that there was a healthier way, a biblical way to parent. She developed a great passion for moms and for parenting because she understood that it is a mom’s greatest privilege and responsibility to pass on a legacy to her children that is healthy, balanced, and consistent with the word of God. Kym started the moms’ group to share her passion and equip other moms with biblical principles to apply to the everyday struggles of motherhood.

Along the way, Kym and the rest of the women realized they were becoming better wives, better moms, and they were becoming the women God called them to be. They realized that having monthly accountability and encouragement from moms who shared their passion was crucial in that process. After many years, the group continued to grow, but as room became limited Kym started to feel that maybe it was time to call it quits and that perhaps the group had run its course.

After much prayer, God made it clear to both Kym and her husband Sam that not only was it not over, it was just beginning! In the summer of 2005, Kym met with her longtime friend and accountability partner, Michele Richardson. Kym told Michele that she felt God was calling her to expand the ministry so that women from all walks of life, from all different denominations and backgrounds could be involved. Michele had also been sensing that God was calling her to a new ministry. Kym and Michele committed to pray about it for six months and see if this was really something God was calling them to do.

From there, it has been quite an adventure! Things began to just “fall” into place (of course, it was all in God’s hands all along). By the end of 2005, 20 of the women who had been involved in Kym’s group answered the call to become part of the ministry and Legacy Moms was born! The first meeting was held in January, 2006 and it has been a blessing and a privilege to have served over 400 women from the DFW area. Legacy Moms was also honored by the Texas Rangers and Starbucks as a community MVP for service to the community.

Our leadership team come from fantastic, Bible-based churches all over the metroplex, and have a variety of experiences, talents and life-situations that make our team a true picture of the body of Christ, each part different but working together as a whole! As different as we all are, the thing we have in common is a strong commitment to Christ and a passion for our families and for reaching other women.

Kym has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Pepperdine University, with a minor in sociology emphasizing marriage, family dynamics and inter-personal relationships. After graduation, Kym worked as a television producer, writer and on-camera talent until she found her “true calling”: being a mom! She lives in Fort Worth with her husband Sam and their three children. Kym and Sam have been married for 15 years and taught parenting classes and seminars for over 10 years at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas and are currently members of Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth where they teach the Young Couples class. Kym is a popular speaker at women’s groups and ministries.

Mission

We believe that women are called to pass on Biblical truth from one generation to the next.
     (Titus 2:3-5, Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

We believe that by educating, equipping and encouraging mothers, they will be inspired to embrace their calling and be intentional with their parenting, so that God can fulfill His purpose in their lives.
     (Philippians 1:6, Proverbs 31:25-31)

We believe that a mother, who learns to love God first and obey His word, will build a Godly heritage for her children and for many generations to come.
     (Exodus 20:6, Psalm 78:4-8)

Leadership Team

“…we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did. For he issued his decree to Jacob; he gave his law to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them-- even the children not yet born-- that they in turn might teach their children. So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors-- stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.”
     Psalm 78:4-8
